Features

There's not a lot (yet), but here's a list of what you get:

Posting

You can post text, links, and uploads. You can also share posts from your friends. All the basics.

Posting UI

Uploads

You can upload images, videos, and music. Use your webcam to take a picture, record a video, or record audio. Or upload files from your computer or phone.

Privacy

Control who can see your posts and who can comment on them. Or make posts that nobody can see but you with a private post.

Liking and Disliking

When you like (or dislike) something, it's between you and the person who posted it. No one else can see it. There are no counts of likes or dislikes displayed anywhere. This isn't meant to be a popularity contest.

Sharing

You can share links from other websites and posts from your friends. You can also share posts from people you don't know.

Commenting

You can comment on posts and uploads from your friends and people you don't know, depending on their settings. You can also comment on your own posts.

Markdown
Markdown

Use markdown in your posts, comments, and upload descriptions! Make text **bold**, _italic_, add links, headings, lists, and more! SocialThing uses remark with GitHub Flavored Markdown.

Privacy Settings

Privacy

Nobody can access the site without an account. That means (hopefully) none of your data out there in the world for anyone to see and take.

Privacy Controls

You can control who sees your posts, who can comment on them, and who can see your friends list. You can also control who can send you friend requests and messages, and whether or not you appear in search results.

Chat

It's chat, just like you expect. Send messages to your friends (and only your friends) in real time through the website, or use your favorite XMPP client on your phone or computer.

RSS Feeds

Once you're friends with someone, you can get an RSS feed of their posts, so you don't have to log in to see what they're up to. Cool, right?
